A breakthrough for the new Mi A1 from Xiaomi is that the phone is "created by Xiaomi, and works on Google". This is an interesting association, but does it bring any benefit to the consumer?
We spent some time with Xiaomi Mi A1 over the past few days, and here are my first impressions of the first Xiaomi device that is equipped with Android One.
Design Xiaomi Mi A1
At first glance, Mi A1 impresses with its minimalistic, but premium design and full metal casing. The stripes of antennas smoothly merge with the upper and lower edges from behind, and although they look quite noticeable in gold and pink gold variants, they are barely noticeable in the black version. On the back is a little ass, but it's not white.
In addition, it is thinner than other Xiaomi devices with curved corners, which makes it a compact smartphone that fits comfortably on your palm and at 165 grams, it also weighs. The buttons on the side and the fingerprint sensor on the rear panel are also within reach.
In general, I think this is the best Xiaomi device in the price segment. It has a refreshing new design language, something similar to what we recently saw with Mi Max 2, and Mi A1 looks like MiX 2's smaller sibling.
Display Xiaomi Mi A1
Mi A1 is equipped with an 5,5-inch Full HD display with 2.5D curved glass and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 to protect the display.
The display is pretty bright, and the text and images look sharp. Despite the fact that the display is slightly reflective, the clarity of the color of sunlight is good enough, and the viewing angles are great.
Xiaomi Mi A1 hardware specifications
For the experiment, Android One Xiaomi returns to its recent favorite - a set of Snapdragon 625 chips paired with 4 GB of RAM. The average Snapdragon 625 processor is not the most powerful in business, but it provides a good balance of power consumption (which leads to longer battery life) and performance.
And with these insides, Mi A1 pretty well caresses beautifully with what throws at him. I still have not tested it, but multitasking with multiple applications in the background and everyday navigation is pretty fresh. There's no noticeable lag or stutter, and the smartphone is quite responsive in everyday use.
As always, Mi A1 is packaged in a hybrid tray, so you can use two SIM cards or one SIM card and one microSD card for memory expansion. However, 64 GB of internal storage on Mi A1 should be good enough for most users.
Mi A1 packs the battery under 3,080 mAh under the lid, and fortunately Xiaomi has now chosen the Type-C USB port for charging. As always, there is an infrared "flashlight" for controlling household appliances.
Xiaomi Mi A1 software
Mi A1 runs Android Android and comes with Android 7.1.2 out of the box. Being a Android One smartphone, it aims to provide a clean Android Nougat experience with a guarantee of Android Oreo updates before the end of this year. In an unexpected announcement at the start, it was reported that Mi A1 will also receive an update to Android P when it is available.
While there is no MIUI blow-up, the proprietary Xiaomi configuration level, there are three Xiaomi applications - Mi Remote (for use in conjunction with an IR blaster), Feedback and Mi Store - which can also be deleted if desired. Mi A1 also uses its own Xiaomi camera application, which is expected, since the Android Android app does not by default support dual cameras at the moment.
While Android UI is a matter of choice, and there are many MIUI fans, especially given the excellent additional features that it brings to the table using the Xiaomi device with an Android stock, it's a refreshing experience. It's cool and smooth. Support Google Assistant and free unlimited cloud storage in Google Photos in high quality.
However, in this Android application there is nothing unique, and a Nokia or Lenovo smartphone with Android Android offers almost the same deal. In fact, there is no USP in the software department, except for regular and timely updates to Android.
Xiaomi Mi A1 Camera
While the partnership with Google has made all the headlines, the smartphone's main point is its dual camera installation from behind. There is a wide-angle lens with a diagonal of 12 Mp and a lens with 12 megapixels that work together to help you flip photos with the effect of depth of field, commonly known as bokeh. The telephoto lens also supports up to 2-fold optical zoom.
With a few shots that I took, I realized that the rear camera was working as expected. He manages to capture impressive photos, but very few ordinary ones. In general, the camera is not bad at the price, and one of the best in the segment. Of course, this is not the same thing as the OnePlus 5 or iPhone 7 Plus, which we would not even consider, but for comparison, which the company claimed.
Xiaomi Mi A1 Cost
At a price of $ 235 will soon appear on the shelves in various countries, Xiaomi Mi A1 - a pretty good smartphone. It looks rather highly technological and works as a good, reliable workhorse.
